superslyskillzmcfly asked: For the 8 ply vs 4 ply question, you'd need the same amount, just a smaller hook and the final product would end up being smaller. Or you could put two strands of the 4 ply together and crochet with both of them with the right hook but you'd need twice the amount of 4 ply as the eight.
